Orientation

This workshop extends an invitation to embrace strategic agency and change as integral leadership practices, relevant for leaders and consultants at every organizational level. It fosters insight and agency in navigating strategic opportunities through participative and inclusive processes, employing systemic skills alongside conventional wisdom.

Abstract IllustrationWhile strategic development is traditionally viewed as the exclusive domain of top management, often employing linear reasoning and top-down communication, this approach may overlook valuable opportunities for broader engagement, collective wisdom, and participative learning. The result can be met with scepticism and resistance, leaving local leaders feeling disempowered.

Reconnecting with the origins of the word ‘strategy,’ linked to 'act' and 'agent,' we pose the question of how leaders and staff across all levels can contribute to strategic agency and change, cultivating a collective strategic intent. This workshop proposes that leaders and staff, regardless of hierarchical levels, can collectively act with strategic intent, engaging in learning processes to shape their team or unit's contribution to the wider organization and their services.

With a goal to make strategic development more inclusive, robust, effective, and humane, the workshop on "Navigating Strategic Change" offers:

  • Systemic frameworks and practical applications for orientation and action regarding strategic opportunities.
  • Reflexive engagement with strategic opportunities in relation to participants’ positions, teams, and organizations.
  • A process for systemic strategic change facilitation and design applicable at both team and wider organizational levels.
  • Learning through a case vignette of strategic change facilitation with a leadership team.
  • Peer work, reflections, consultations, and strategic action planning tailored to participants’ positions, teams, and organizations.

To facilitate meaningful dialogue and learning, the number of participants is limited to 16.
