Embracing Organisational Crises

How can we lead or consult to organisations when crises are evident at political, societal, economical and personal levels?  The word ‘crisis’ often carries connotations of threat, failure or stress, posing significant challenges to the functioning and even existence of organisations and teams. The meaning of the word crisis is, however, originally linked to decision point or turning point.

This workshop ‘Embracing Organisational Crises’ facilitates a systemic orientation considering opportunities and risk in relation to crises.  We will attend to how we narrate and experience crises and how we can make sense of organisational crises from different perspectives.  The workshop offers a language that orientates us to the different phases of an unfolding crisis and ideas about decision making in response to risks and opportunities.  It invites reflexivity and agency in crisis leadership and consulting, utilising systemic frames and tools.

In relation to a case vignette, systemic and contemporary theories, and participants’ lived experiences of crises, we will explore:

  • The meaning of ‘crisis’ in different contexts
  • Specific human responses to uncertainty and loss of control
  • Stabilising and transformational responses to crises
  • A contemporary crisis model and its implications for leadership and consulting
  • Ways of creating safety in the midst of complexity and change
  • Generative inquiry into discourses of organisational crisis and failure

We will also connect theory to practice in a live consultation, leveraging the participant-group’s collective wisdom utilising a kaleidoscope reflective practice consultation process.

To facilitate meaningful dialogue and learning, the number of participants is limited to 16.
